Voluntary and community organisations throughout Wales play a key role in helping people to stay healthy and well. They are at the heart of the community providing services close to where people live and often to the most vulnerable. This close working with the community means that they are ideally placed to identify local needs and to develop new ways of working to ensure those needs are met. Services provided by the sector are diverse and include things like advocacy, advice, activities and support.

Monmouthshire's Carers Project is a partnership between Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO), Monmouthshire Social and Housing Services, Aneurin Bevan Health Board and Crossroads South East Wales. It aims to ensure that carers know where to go to get help, have an opportunity to talk about support they may need and have help to get that support.

GAVO has a health and social care facilitator in each county borough area to support partnership working between the voluntary sector and other health and social care agencies, particularly social services departments and Aneurin Bevan Health Board.
